When a child is diagnosed with a medical problem, the whole family is impacted, both emotionally and often financially.  Medical expenses not typically covered by insurance can begin to mount. ECAF exists to provide financial assistance to these families based on need.  The types of assistance provided by ECAF to local families over the years have included:

• Unpaid medical bills

• Therapy services

• Medical equipment such as specialized wheelchairs, specialized bicycles, medical beds, chair lifts and speech assistive devices

• Costs associated with adapting family vehicles to accommodate medical equipment

• Costs of special dietary requirements

• Costs of summer camps for children with disabilities or medical conditions such as diabetes

Following are some recent examples of the assistance ECAF has been able to provide to families in our community:

Therapies for Local Children
Contributed to The Center for Independence to assist local children with various ongoing therapies and equipment such as quad canes and other devices to aid in walking and therapy.

Therapeutic Bicycle
Purchased a specially equipped custom made bicycle for a boy with cerebral palsy to be used for therapy and family bike rides.

DynaVox Technology
ECAF purchased a DynaVox machine to assist in speech therapy for the Speech Center at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital located at Courts Plus.

Family in Need
Helped a young disabled boy whose mother was unable to provide assistance after she was diagnosed with cancer.

Rehabilitation
Provided assistance for a 12 year old child suffering from a rare brain disorder, who was receiving services from the MarianJoy Center.

Assist Local Children with
World Class Speech Therapy
ECAF has provided assistance to many children who receive therapy at The Center For Speech & Language Disorders, a locally based and world renowned speech center, to assist local children with various conditions to learn to speak.

Chair Lift for Pool Facilities
ECAF funded the purchase of an automated chair lift for the community pool and the YMCA for water rehabilitation.

Mars Suit
Assisted various Elmhurst children from the DuPage Easter Seals with the purchase of a "Mars Suit" to assist kids with cerebral palsy during physical therapy.

Specially Equipped Stroller
Purchased a specially equipped stroller and provided funding for physical therapy for a three year old child who suffers from a genetic muscle disorder.

Finding Assistance
A formal application including documentation of need is required for all assistance considerations, and approved grants are paid directly to providers.
